[*A portion of this video is without audio*] [Reptile Show] [00:15:51] THIS [00:15:51] GUY, [00:15:52] HE [00:15:52] GOES, EH, HE STICKS OUT THAT BLUE TONGUE, THE OTHER ANIMAL SEE THAT AND SAY, WHOA, NO, THAT LOOKS WEIRD AND DANGEROUS AND UNNATURAL. I'M GETTING OUTTA HERE. AND THEY STAY AWAY BECAUSE IN NATURE, BRIGHT COLORS OFTEN MEAN DANGER. ARE YOU DANGEROUS? HE'S NOT DANGEROUS AT ALL. TAKE SOMETHING ELSE. REALLY CRAZY. BLUE TONGUE STINKS. DO NOT LAY EGGS. WHAT YOU PROBABLY LEARNED THAT REPTILES LAY EGGS, RIGHT? MOST OF THEM DO, BUT NOT BLUE TONGUE STINKS. THEY JUST HAVE LIVE WIGGLY BABIES ABOUT THAT BIG. YEAH. YEAH. ISN'T THAT WEIRD? YEAH. SO LET'S BRING THESE GUYS DOWN. LET'S BRING AROUND PICKLES. THE BLUE TOP SKATE AND HOGO. GOT BEARD DRAGON. OKAY. BE STILL SILLY. ALL RIGHT, LET'S GO THIS WAY FIRST. NOW POGO, THE BEARDED DRAGON. HE ACTUALLY, UH, USED TO BE SOMEBODY'S PET AND UH, IT WAS A FAMILY THAT HAD KIDS AND HE GREW UP WITH HIM. HOWEVER, HE WAS TERRIFIED OF CHILDREN. AND SO THEY SENT HIM TO LIVE WITH US. THEY SAID HE'S JUST TOO SCARED OF KIDS. SO IT TOOK US A LITTLE WHILE WORKING WITH HIM AND HE EVENTUALLY GOT TO WHERE HE WAS LIKE, YEAH, I GUESS KIDS AREN'T SO BAD AFTER ALL. SO HE'S OKAY. HE NO LONGER TRIES TO RUN AWAY EVERY TIME HE SEES KIDS. AND THAT'S WHO GOT OUR FRIEND. HO. NO. NOW PICKLES ON THE OTHER HAND, I BOUGHT PICKLES FROM A GUY WHO ACTUALLY RAISES BLUE TO STINKS. YEAH, PICKLE WAS A LITTLE TINY BABY WHEN I GOT HIM. THERE YOU GO. WHAT? LOOK AT THAT. HOLD ON. PEOPLE PUTTING REARRANGE HERE BUDDY. THERE GO. DOES THAT FEEL BETTER? YEAH. LOOK AT THAT. OH, HE KEEPS TURNING AWAY. YEAH. SILLY GUY. BRING OUT SNAKES BETTER. OH, GIVE THERE WE ALL RIGHT FRIENDS, WE ARE GONNA SAY GOODBYE TO BOTH THESE AMAZING LIZARDS RIGHT HERE. LET'S PUT POGO AWAY FIRST. HERE. POGO IS GETTING HERE, BUDDY. ALL RIGHT, YOU PICKLES. YOU WANNA SEE SOMETHING ELSE? COOL. WATCH THIS. MY RED PICKLES LOVES YOU NOSE. [00:20:01] ALL RIGHT, NOW IS ANYBODY READY FOR SOME SNAKES? FRIENDS, THE REST OF THE SHOW IS ALL SNAKES. SO LET'S SAY WHAT KIND OF WILD, CRAZY SNAKES MR. MIKE BROUGHT TODAY? YOU KNOW WHAT? WE ARE GONNA START WITH THE CUTEST SNAKE IN THE WORLD. I GOT ONE RIGHT HERE. LET'S SEE WHAT IT IS. AND THE ACCUSED SNAKE IN THE WORLD IS MICHAEL, FRIEND THE HOG. THE HOG GHOST SNAKES GET THEIR NAME BECAUSE THEY HAVE A CUTE LITTLE NOSE, LIKE A HOG, LIKE A PIG THAT STICKS UP. LOOK AT THAT LITTLE PIG NOSE. NOW THE ABOUT THE HOG GOES SNAKE AND THAT LITTLE NOSE HOG, THOSE SNAKES USE THEIR LITTLE PALMED NOSE LIKE A SHOVEL TO DIG IN THE GROUND INTO THE SOFT SANDY SOIL. THAT IS HOW THEY HIDE AND HOW THEY FIND AND CATCH THE FROGS AND THE TOADS THAT THEY LIKE TO EAT. YOU SEE FROGS AND TOES, THEY'LL HIDE IN HOLES IN THE GROUND AND IN BETWEEN ROCKS AND LOGS. AND WHEN ANIMALS TRY TO EAT THE FROGS AND THE TOADS, THEY PUMP THEIR BODIES UP THEY GO, THEY PUMP UP REALLY BIG, SORT OF LIKE A BALLOON. SO THE FROGS, THE TOTES ARE KIND OF STUCK IN THERE AND THE OTHER ANIMALS CANNOT GET IN THERE VERY EASILY AND PULL 'EM OUT TO EAT THEM. BUT THE HOG GOES, THEY CAN HEAT WHALES AND GATES IS WAY IN THERE AND HE SCOOPS 'EM RIGHT OUT THE, THEY EAT THEM. NOW THAT IS REALLY COOL. THAT IS NOT THE MOST AMAZING THING ABOUT THIS SNAKE. THE MOST AMAZING THING ABOUT THIS SNAKE IS WHAT HE DOES IF ANOTHER ANIMAL TRIES TO EAT HIM. YOU SEE, IF AN ANIMAL TRIES TO EAT THE HOG, NO SNAKE, HE STARTS TO HUFF AND PUFF. HE PUMPS HIS BODY UP SO HE LOOKS BIGGER, HE FLATS OUT HIS HEAD AND HIS NECK. IT MAKES HIM LOOK EVEN BIGGER. AND HE MOVES FROM SIDE TO SIDE. HE GOES, HE KISSES REALLY LOUD. IT'S KIND OF SCARY. AND IF YOU KEEP MESSING WITH THIS GUY, HE WILL SNAP OUT AND HE WILL PRETEND TO BITE YOU. BUT HE'LL ONLY PRETEND HE WON'T REALLY BITE YOU. HE JUST POKES YOU WITH THAT CUTE LITTLE NOSE THAT DOESN'T HURT. IT'S ALL A TRICK. AND FINALLY, IF NONE OF THAT MAKES YOU LEAVE HIM ALONE, THAT'S WHEN IT GETS REALLY CRAZY. HE STARTS TO SHAKE AND TWITCH HIS BODY ALL AROUND LIKE THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH HIM. THEN HE POOPS ALL OVER YOU LIKE, LIKE A SKELETON. THAT TALKING YOU CAN SMELL REALLY BAD. MOST SNAKES CAN DO THAT. I THINK YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT. BUT THEY CAN'T. SO WHILE HE'S SPRAY NASTY STUFF OVER, HE'S SHAKING HIS BODY ALL AROUND, HE FLIPS OVER ON HIS BACK OF HIS TONGUE HANGING OUT THE DIRT AND HE PLAYS DEAD. AND IF YOU TURN OVER THE RIGHT WAY, HE FLIPS OVER AGAIN LIKE, NO, REALLY I'M DEAD. SO THE OTHER ANIMAL, SEE HOW THEY SAY, EW, I DON'T EAT THAT NASTY SWEET SMELL ALWAYS SAYING I'M GETTING OUTTA HERE. AND THEY STAY AWAY. AND THAT IS HOW THE LITTLE HOG GOES. STAY, STAY SAFE. LET'S TAKE A LOOK. HE'S SMELLING. HE GOES, YEAH, SMELLS LIKE KIDS. THERE WE GO. HE SAYS, DO Y'ALL BRING ANY FROGS OR POS FOR ME TO EAT NOICE? NO. ALL RIGHT FRIENDS, THIS GUY MADISON, CHRIS IS THE BAG OF MARSHMALLOWS. SEE HOW HE HOLDS ONTO HIS FIGHTS FINGERS? HE SAYS, MR. MIKE, DON'T DROP ME ON ALL THOSE DANGEROUS KIDS. [00:25:10] NOW YOU MAY THINK THAT HE'S A BABY, BUT HE'S ALL GROWN UP. THIS IS ABOUT AS BIG AS THE MALE WESTERN HALT. NO STINK GETS THE FEMALE. GETS ABOUT TWICE AS BIG THOUGH. ALL RIGHT, GOOD JOB FRIENDS. THAT WAS A FUN STEAK TO START WITH. BUT IT'S TIME FOR MORE. LET'S SAY GOODBYE TO OUR LITTLE HOG. NO STEAK. BYE. LET'S SEE WHAT ELSE WE HAVE HERE. YOU KNOW WHAT FRIENDS? I ACTUALLY HAVE A SPECIAL GUEST REP PILE HERE TODAY. AND THIS IS A NEW SNAKE THAT JUST CAME TO LIVE WITH US UH, I GUESS A FEW MONTHS AGO. AND THIS IS ONLY, THIS WEEK IS THE FIRST TIME WE'VE BROUGHT THIS SNAKE OUT JUST FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS THIS SNAKE HAS COME OUT. AND SO WHAT WE ARE DOING IS WE ARE ACTUALLY TAKING THIS YOUNG SNAKE AND THIS IS KINDA LIKE THE TRAINING PROGRAM FOR FOR THIS SNAKE. OKAY? SO THAT'S THE WAY WE START. WE TAKE THE SNAKE OR OTHER REPTILE AND WE START TAKING IT OUT GRADUALLY TO PROGRAM SO THAT HE CAN GET USED TO BEING AROUND BIG GROUPS OF PEOPLE. CAUSE THIS SNAKE WAS NEVER AROUND MANY PEOPLE BEFORE. AND SO YOU GUYS ARE ACTUALLY PARTICIPATING IN US, KIND OF LIKE THE SNAKE. OKAY? AND THIS IS OUR LITTLE FRIEND, THE BULL SNAKE. OKAY? SO BULL SNAKES DO SOME AMAZING THINGS. BULL SNAKES, THEY CAN BE FOUND HERE IN TEXAS AND THEY ACTUALLY MIMIC OR PRETEND TO BE RATTLE SNAKES. HERE'S WHAT WE DO. FIRST OFF, THEY HAVE A PATTERN VERY SIMILAR TO THE RATTLESNAKE, THE SAME LITTLE CACE PATTERN, NOT EXACT BUT CLOSE ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE REAMS AROUND THE TAIL. THEY HAVE LITTLE, LITTLE BANDS AROUND THEIR TAILS, A LOT LIKE A DIAMONDBACK RATTLESNAKE. AND THESE GUYS, THEY USE SOMETHING WEIRD. THEY ACTUALLY WILL ADOPT THE POSTURE, THE THE POSITION OF A RATTLE SNAKE. YOU SEE, IF YOU ENCOUNTER A RATTLE SNAKE IN THE WILD, IT WILL OFTEN COIL ITS BODY HOLD UP ITS HEAD PULL, ITS NECK BACK INTO AN S SHAPE SO THAT IT CAN SACK OUT IF IT HAS TO LIGHT AND FAST AND STRAIGHT BITE YOU TO MAKE YOU STAY AWAKE. OKAY? THIS SNAKE WILL DO THE SAME THING AND THE RATTLE STAKE WILL RATTLE. IT WILL RATTLE ITS TAIL. NOW THIS SNAKE DOES NOT HAVE A RATTLE ON THE END OF HER TAIL, BUT SHE WILL SHAKE HER TAIL REALLY FAST AGAINST THE GROUND. AND IF THERE'S SOMETHING ON THE GROUND LIKE A PIECE OF WOOD OR METAL OR MAYBE EVEN BACK OF CHARCOAL IN YOUR GARAGE, IF THAT TAIL VIBRATES AGAINST AN OBJECT, IT CAN OFTEN MAKE A RATTLING SOUND. SOUND SOUNDS SORT LIKE A RATTLESNAKE, BUT IT GETS EVEN BETTER. THIS SNAKE CAN ACTUALLY FLATTEN OUT HER HEAD AND MAKE IT LOOK BIGGER LIKE A RATTLESNAKE'S HEAD. AND WHEN SHE HISES, THERE'S A LITTLE PIECE OF SKIN IN HER THROAT THAT VIBRATES, THAT MAKES A BUZZING SOUND THAT SOUNDS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THE RATTLESNAKES RATTLE. SO ALL THESE THINGS ALLOW THE SNAKE TO MIMIC OR PRETEND TO BE A DIAMONDBACK RATTLESNAKE. NOW THAT'S EFFECTIVE KEEPING ANIMALS AWAY. UNFORTUNATELY PEOPLE USUALLY SEE THESE GUYS AND THEY GET KIND OF INTIMIDATED AND KILL THESE GUYS. WE SHOULDN'T DO THAT THOUGH. THESE GUYS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO BENEFICIAL TO US BECAUSE THEY EAT A LOT OF RATS AND MICE AND THAT HELPS US OUT. SO HERE'S WHAT WE'RE GONNA DO. WE'RE GONNA BRING THIS LITTLE SNAKE AROUND AND WHAT I'M GONNA ASK YOU TO DO IS TO GO AHEAD AND BE REAL STILL AND AND AS QUIET AS YOU CAN FOR ME SO THAT SHE CAN SEE THAT YOU GUYS ARE NOT DANGEROUS, OKAY? YOU THINK YOU CAN DO THAT FOR ME? BE PART OF OUR, OUR SNAKE TRAINING PROGRAM HERE TODAY. SO LET'S BRING HER OUT. WE'LL START THIS WAY NOW. I CAN ACTUALLY ALREADY TELL A DIFFERENCE JUST THIS WEEK. THIS THING HAS ONLY BEEN OUT WITH YOU. I THINK THIS WAS LIKE MAYBE THE EIGHTH TIME OR THE EIGHTH SHOWS THAT SHE'S DONE THIS WEEK. AND I CAN ALREADY TELL SHE IS ALREADY STARTING TO GET USED TO PEOPLE AND STARTED TO GET REALLY CALM AROUND PEOPLE. AT FIRST WE TOOK HER OUT, SHE WAS KIND OF WIGGLY AND JERKY AND SHE ALMOST IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO BE LIKE, OH, OKAY. I GUESS KIDS AREN'T SO BAD AFTER ALL. YEAH, I GUESS PEOPLE AREN'T SO SCARY. SEE, AND THIS IS HOW WE START WITH THE NEW REPTILE. WE INTRODUCE IT TO PEOPLE, BRING IT AROUND SLOWLY AND EVENTUALLY AS THE SNAKE GETS BIGGER AND GROWS UP, SHE'LL BE HANDLEABLE. PEOPLE WILL EVENTUALLY GET TO HOLD HER ONE DAY. THERE WE GO. AND WE CAN WORK HER EACH ON SOME OF OUR HANDS-ON PROGRAMS HERE, WATCH OUR FINGERS BUDDY. ALL RIGHT, LOOK AT THAT. NOW PEOPLE ASK ME ALL THE TIME, HOW BIG DOES THAT SNAKE GET? WELL THIS SNAKE CAN ACTUALLY GET TO BE AS MUCH AS EIGHT FEET LONG. THAT IS TWO FEET LONGER THAN THAT TABLE OVER THERE BEHIND ME. AND SHE CAN ACTUALLY GET TO BE ABOUT AS [00:30:01] BIG AROUND WITH MY FOREARM. YEAH, SO THEY CAN GET VERY LARGE. SIX FEET IS A LITTLE MORE COMMON AND NOT QUITE AS BIG AROUND, BUT THEY CAN GET BIGGER. THERE YOU GO. LOOK AT THAT OUR LITTLE FRIEND, THE BULL SNAKE. THERE WE GO. LOOK AT THAT. ALL RIGHT, LOOK AT THAT. ALL RIGHT FRIENDS, THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN THAT AND HELPING ME TO MAKE THIS SNAKE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU GUYS ARE NOT DANGEROUS TO HER. SO WILL GROW UP NICE AND FRIENDLY IN PAIN. NOW WE'RE GONNA TAKE HER AND PUT HER BACK IN THIS LITTLE BAG HERE. WE'RE GONNA LET HER TAKE A LITTLE BREAK. THAT WAS A NICE LITTLE ADVENTURE FOR HER. THERE WE GO. ARE YOU GUYS READY FOR MORE? YEAH. YEAH. CAN WE SOME MORE? ALL RIGHT, SO LET'S SEE WHAT ELSE DO WE HAVE HERE? YOU KNOW WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SHOW YOU ANOTHER SNAKE THAT LIKES TO PLAY. PRETEND. SO HERE IN TEXAS WE HAVE AN EXTREMELY VENOMOUS SNAKE CALLED THE CORAL SNAKE. NOW THE CORAL SNAKE GIVES US A FAIR WARNING TO STAY AWAY. YOU SEE THE CORAL SINK HAS RINGS OF RED AND YELLOW AND BLACK AROUND ITS BODY AND THE RINGS OF RED AND YELLOW AND BLACK AROUND THE CORAL SINK'S BODY. TELL US THE OTHER ROUND, HEY, DON'T MESS WITH ME AND I WON'T MESS WITH YOU. WELL RIGHT HERE IN THIS BAG WE HAVE A BRIGHT RED, YELLOW AND BLACK MILK SINK. THIS IS NOT THE DEADLY CORAL SNAKE, BUT IT PRETENDS TO BE ONE. IT MIMICS ONE JUST LIKE THE BULL SNAKE MIMICS THE RATTLE SNAKE. THIS SNAKE MIMICS THE CORAL SNAKE. SO THIS IS THE MILK SNAKE. NOW MILK SNAKES GET THEIR NAME BECAUSE THESE GUYS LIKE TO HANG OUT AT BARNES NEAR THE COWS AND FARMERS USED TO FIND THESE GUYS OUT THERE. AND YOU KNOW WHAT THEY THOUGHT? THEY THOUGHT THOSE SNAKES ARE GETTING OUT HERE AND THEY MUST BE MILKING OUR COWS AND DRINKING ALL THE MILK THAT SILLY SNAKES DO NOT MILK COWS. IT TURNS OUT THAT THESE GUYS LIKE TO GO INTO BARN BECAUSE THEY CAN FIND THINGS LIKE RATS AND MICE AND LOSERS AND BIRDS AND EVEN OTHER SNAKES TO EAT. HE IS SO TOUGH HE CAN EVEN EAT A SMALL RATTLESNAKE. AND IF THE RATTLES SNAKE BITES HIM, NO PROBLEM. THE RATTLESNAKES DEADLY VENOM WILL NOT EVEN MAKE HIM SICK. LET'S SEE. LOOK AT THIS GUY WHILE I TELL YOU SOME MORE ABOUT THEM. SO PEOPLE NOTICED A LONG TIME AGO THEY WERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW THEY COULD TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MILKS SNAKE AND THE CORAL SNAKE. SO THEY STARTED TO LOOK AT 'EM AND THEY NOTICED THERE WAS A LITTLE DIFFERENCE. IT WAS PRETTY EASY FOR THEM TO SPOT. THEY NOTICED THAT THE VENICE ONES, THE CORAL SNAKES HAD RINGS OF RED AND THEN YELLOW AND THEN BLACK. SO THE RED RINGS WERE NEXT TO THE YELLOW RINGS AND THEY NOTICED THAT THE MILK SAFE HAD RINGS OF RED AND THEN BLACK AND THEN YELLOW, SOMETIMES WHITE. AND THEY SAID, OKAY, WELL HOW ARE WE GOING TO REMEMBER THAT? SO THEY CAME UP WITH A LITTLE RHYME. THEY SAID, RED TOUCHES YELLOW KILLS A FELLA AND RED TOUCHES BLACK IS A FRIEND OF JACK. NOW THAT'S A PRETTY HANDY LITTLE RHYME FRIENDS, BUT GUESS WHAT? THERE ARE TWO BIG PROBLEMS WITH THAT RHYME. FIRST THREE PROBLEMS AND DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK. SOMETIMES CORAL SNAKES HAVE THEIR COLORS IN THE WRONG ORDER. I HAVE SEEN CORAL SNAKES THAT HAVE RED TOUCHING BLACK INSTEAD OF RED TOUCHING YELLOW. AND SOMETIMES CORAL SNAKES ARE EVEN MISSING COLORS. I'VE SEEN A CORAL SNAKE THAT WAS BLACK AND RED WITH NO YELLOW. I'VE SEEN BLACK AND YELLOW WITH NO RED. I HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN A RED AND WHITE ALBINO CORAL SNAKE. SO THAT'S THE FIRST BIG PROBLEM WITH THE RHYME. SECOND BIG PROBLEM WITH THE RHYME IS THAT PEOPLE OFTEN FORGET IT. PEOPLE SAY, MR. MIKE, I KNOW THE RHYME. SO I SAY, OKAY, TELL US THE RHYME. AND THEN THEY GO, UM, UM, BLACK AND YELLOW OR DEAD FELLOW PURPLE PLAS NOT TOO BAD. OH WAIT, NO THAT'S NOT IT. PEOPLE FORGET. THAT'S OKAY. SO MR. MIKE HAS SOMETHING EVEN EASIER FOR YOU ALL TO REMEMBER. HOW ABOUT THIS? EVERYBODY REPEAT AFTER ME. IF YOU SEE A SNAKE OUTSIDE, JUST LEAVE IT ALONE. SEE HOW EASY THAT IS. NOW THE REASON I PAY THAT FRIENDS IS BECAUSE THERE ARE A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT WAYS TELL IF A SNAKE IS VENOMOUS OR NOT AND NONE TO WORK. [00:35:01] SO ALL LITTLE TRICKS, THE TRIANGLE SHAPE AND THE VERTICAL FEW POLE REDNECK TO YELLOW. YOU CAN FORGET ALL THAT STUFF BECAUSE THERE ARE TOO MANY EXCEPTIONS TO THAT FOR IT TO BE A GOOD WAY TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE. SO WHEN YOU SEE US SAY, JUST DON'T MESS WITH IT, THAT'S THE EASIEST WAY TO NOT GET BITTEN. CAN'T BITE ME IF YOU OVER HEAR IT. ALL RIGHT? OKAY, LET'S BRING THIS LITTLE FRIEND OVER HERE. WE'RE GONNA SAY GOODBYE TO OUR LITTLE MILKS BUDDY. MILK, GO. ALL RIGHT, THERE WE GO FRIENDS. LET'S SEE WHAT ELSE WE HAVE HERE. YOU HERE LITTLE FRIEND. ALL RIGHT, NOW FRIENDS, I LIKE TO SHOW YOU A SNAKE THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE LOVE TO KEEP IS DEPENDENT. FACT THERE'S ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR PET SNAKES IN THE ENTIRE WORLD FROM RIGHT HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. LET'S SEE WHAT IT'S COME ON OUT. ONE OF MY FAVORITES. HERE WE GO, THE SNAKE. ALL RIGHT, NOW HERE'S WHERE WE HERE. TAKE THIS CORN SNAKE RIGHT HERE AND WE'RE GONNA PUT HIM RIGHT HERE AND NO, NO, NO, HE'S GOOD. AND I'M GONNA TAKE OUT ANOTHER CAUSE I THINK ONE PORK SNAKE IS NOT ENOUGH. WHERE ARE YOU GOING? THERE YOU GO. AH, HERE'S ANOTHER CORN SNAKE. YOU KNOW WHAT? HOW ABOUT ONE MORE? WHAT IS LIKE THREE QUART SNAKES? THAT'S CRAZY. WELL I NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT AT LEAST THREE QUART STAKES. CAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU'LL NEED AN NEXT ONE. HERE WE GO. LOOK AT THAT. WHOA, THAT CORN SNAKE IS MISSING IT'S COLORS. THIS IS A SPECIAL ALBINO CORN SNAKE. THEY CALL A SNOW CORN MISSING ALL IT'S RED AND ALL IT'S BLACK. LOOK AT THAT. YOU KNOW WHAT, LET'S TAKE THIS ONE. WE'LL PUT IT RIGHT HERE. LET'S TAKE THIS ONE. WE'LL PUT IT RIGHT HERE AND LET'S SEE IF WE CAN UNWRAP THIS ONE. WE WILL PUT THIS ONE RIGHT HERE AND LOOK AT THAT. WHAT A CONVENIENT WAY TO CARRY ALL YOUR CORN SINKS, RIGHT? LOOK AT, ALL RIGHT, SO CHRIS, LEMME TELL YOU ABOUT CORN SNAKES. CORN SNAKES LIKE TO HANG OUT AT COURTFIELD WHEN THE CORN GOES TALL AND FARMERS WOULD FIND THESE GUYS OUT THERE, YOU KNOW WHAT THEY THOUGHT? THEY THOUGHT THOSE SNAKES ARE GETTING OUT HERE AND THEY MUST BE EATING OUR CORN. THEY DIDN'T LIKE THESE GUYS. THEY USED TO GET RID OF THEM ALL THE TIME. PAUSE BECAUSE THEY ARE WRAPPED AROUND MY MICROPHONE HERE. HOLD ON FRIENDS, WHERE YOU GOING? LET'S PUT THIS RIGHT BACK HERE. ALL RIGHT, SNAKES JUST WRAP AROUND EVERYTHING, DON'T THEY? THERE WE GO. SO THE FARMERS DIDN'T LIKE THESE GUYS VERY MUCH AND THEY USED TO GET RID OF THEM EVERY TIME THEY SAW THEM, BUT THEN THEY LEARNED SOMETHING. SNAKES DON'T EAT CORN. NO CORN IS A PLANT AND NO SNAKE IN THE WHOLE WORLD EATS PLANTS. ALL SNAKES, OTHER ANIMALS, SNAKES CALLED CARNIVORES. THAT MEANS THEY EAT OTHER ANIMALS. THEY'RE NOT CORN OR OR CORN. FIRST UP, THESE GUYS LIKE TO HIDE OUT IN THE FIELDS BECAUSE THEY CAN FIND THINGS LIKE RATS AND MICE TO EAT. YOU SEE THE RATS AND THE MICE, THEY DO GO INTO THE FIELDS AND THEY EAT THE CORN AND THE OTHER CROPS AND THE RATS AND THE MICE SPREAD NASTY DISEASES. THE PEOPLE AND ANIMALS. SO THE FARMERS SAID, HEY, THOSE SNAKES ARE ACTUALLY HELPING US OUT BY EATING THOSE NASTY OLD RATS AND ICE. SO THEY LET THE SNAKES BACK INTO THEIR FIELDS AND HELP THE FARMERS TO SAVE THEIR CROPS SO THEY WERE HAPPY AND THE SNAKES GOT A FREE MEAL. SO THEY WERE HAPPY. EVERYBODY WAS HAPPY EXCEPT MAYBE, MAYBE FOR THE RATS AND RIGHT, YEAH, LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT THESE GUYS. THESE GUYS ARE SUPER FRIENDLY. THEY COME LOTS OF PRETTY COLORS AND PATTERNS AND EASIER TO TAKE CARE OF. F**K PEOPLE LIKE THEM. SO LOOK AT THAT. WHOA, [00:40:11] SEE HOW NICE AND DIRTY THESE GUYS ARE? THEY SAY HI FRIENDS. THEY'RE LIKE, HOW ARE Y'ALL DOING TODAY? LIKE THIS WHITE ONE REALLY LIKES Y'ALL. IF HE'S COMING TO SEE YOU GUYS, HE OVER HERE SILLY. ALL RIGHT FRIENDS, NOW I WANNA SHOW YOU ALL ANOTHER WILD AND CRAZY SNAKE. BUT FIRST I HAVE TO UNTANGLE THESE GUYS. LUCKILY MR. MIKE IS A PROFESSIONAL SNAKE UN WRAPPER. SO LEMME SEE WHAT I CAN DO. CAN I GET ALL THESE CRAZY SNAKES UNTANGLED? OKAY, I'M GONNA TRY. LET'S GO THIS WAY. GO RIGHT HERE. GONNA TAKE ALL MY CONSIDERABLE SNAKE UNWRAPPING SKILLS. LET'S GO THIS WAY. OKAY, PUT THAT RIGHT HERE. LET'S TAKE THIS ONE. PUT IT OVER HERE. ALL RIGHT. OKAY, WE GOT 'EM UNTANGLED NOW. NOW I HAVE TO START GETTING THESE GUYS PUT AWAY. YEAH. SO I'M GONNA TAKE THIS SNAKE RIGHT HERE AND PUT 'EM IN THE BAG. AND YOU KNOW, PEOPLE ASK ME ALL THE TIME, THEY SAY, MR. MIKE, WHY IN THE WORLD YOU PUT THOSE SNAKES IN BAGS? WELL, WHEN I TAKE A SNAKE LIKE THIS AND I PUT IT IN A BAG LIKE THIS AND I WRAP IT UP LIKE THIS AND TIE AND KNOT IN IT LIKE THIS. NOW THIS SNAKE COULD NOT GET LOOSE. WE DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT SLITHERING ALL OVER YOUR LIBRARY OR IN THIS ROOM OR I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT GETTING LOOSE IN MY CAR. CAUSE LET ME TELL YOU, IF YOU'VE NEVER LOST A SNAKE IN A CAR BEFORE, IT IS NOT EASY TO FIND. WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER, I LOST A BIG TEXAS RAT SNAKE IN MY MOM'S CAR. SHE WAS NOT HAPPY WITH ME ONE BIT. SHE WAS EVEN LESS HAPPY WITH ME THE TIME THAT I LOST 15 BABY KING SNAKES IN THE HOUSE. WE FOUND SOME OF THEM. SO WHEN WE TRAVEL THE SNAKES RIDE IN THESE BAGS AND IN THESE BOXES FOR SAFEKEEPING. NOW FRIENDS, WE'VE GOT JUST A COUPLE MORE REPTILES LEFT TO SEE. I WANNA SHOW YOU MY LITTLE FRIEND CRICKET FROM AFRICA. LET'S SEE WHAT CRICKET IS. HEY CRICKET. COME SEE THE KIDS. THERE WE GO. LOOK AT THAT. SO MY LITTLE BUDDY CRICKET IS CALLED A BALL. PI BALL. PIS LIKE CRICKET ARE CALLED BALL PI BECAUSE WHEN THEY GET SCARED THEY ROLL UP INTO A BALL WITH THEIR PROTECT THEMSELVES. IT MAKES HIM LOOK TOO BIG TO EAT. HE ALSO HAS A COOL SECRET WEAPON TO HELP WHEN HE CATCHES FOOD ON THE END OF HIS FACE THERE'S SOME LITTLE HOLES HE GIVES LITTLE HOLES. THOSE ARE HEAT FILTERS. IT'S LIKE A NIGHT VISION INFRARED CAMERA. HE CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE BODY HEAT, THE WARM BLOODED LITTLE AM ANIMALS EAT AND HE CAN SNAP OUT TENSION EVEN IN THIS PARK. NOW CRICKET IS OUR SECOND OLDEST BALL HYPHEN AT 22 YEARS AND THEY CAN ACTUALLY LIVE BE OVER 40 OR EVEN 50 YEARS OLD. THIS LITTLE GUY IS ABOUT, I THINK WE MEASURED HIM, BUT RIGHT AT FOUR FEET LONG, IF YOU ACTUALLY STRETCHES OUT A LITTLE BIT ABOUT FOUR FEET LONG, THAT'S ABOUT AS BIG AS A MALE BALL PIPE. IT'S GONNA GET THE FEMALES GET TO BE UH, FIVE TO SIX FEET LONG. LET'S TAKE A LOOK. LET'S TURN ON THIS END. LOOK AT THAT. WE LIKE TO EAT BIG JUICY RATS AT OUR PLACE IN THE WILD. THEY ALSO SOMETIMES EAT BIRDS. WOW. AND THESE GUYS ARE ALSO ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR PET SNAKES IN THE WORLD. THEY ALSO COME IN MANY COLORS OF PATTERNS AND THEY'RE ALSO VERY FRIENDLY AND EASY TO TAKE CARE OF. MY TICKET HERE WAS DONATED TO US BY A FAMILY THAT HAD HIM AND COULD NO LONGER KEEP HIM. SO THEY SENT HIM TO LIVE WITH US AND WE HAD HIM FOR I BELIEVE ALMOST 10 YEARS NOW. VERY FRIENDLY GUY. HE SAYS, HEY EVERYBODY, HOW ARE Y'ALL DOING? [00:45:36] HERE WE GO. THESE GUYS DO NOT SPEND A LOT OF TIME IN THE WATER. UH, THEY SOAK A LITTLE BIT, BUT WHERE THEY LIVE, THERE'S NOT A WHOLE LOT OF STANDING WATER FOR THEM. SO THEY SPEND A LOT OF THEIR TIME INSIDE OF HERMITE MOUNDS TO KEEP COOL. NOW LET'S SAY GOODBYE TO THIS LITTLE FRIEND. LET'S SAY BYE CRICKET. NOW FRIENDS, WE HAVE JUST ONE MORE REP PILE TO SEE. ARE Y'ALL READY FOR MY LITTLE FRIEND? CARITA CARITA, THE CENTRAL AMERICAN SOUTH AMERICA PARTS OF MEXICO FROM THE FOREST AND THE JUNGLES AND THIS KIND OF SNAKE HAS SOMETHING IN COMMON WITH PICKLES, THE BLUE TONGUE SKIN. AND THAT IS SHE DOES NOT LAY EGGS. THIS KIND OF SNAKE JUST SAYS LIVE WIGGLY BABIES UP TO 50 AT A TIME. YEAH. SO LET'S SEE WHAT WE HAVE HERE. HEY CARITA, COME SEE THE KIDS. WELL MY LITTLE FRIEND CARITA IS CALLED EBOLA CONSTRICTOR AND BOLO CONSTRICTORS LIKE CARMELITA LOVE TO EAT THINGS LIKE RATS AND RABBITS AND CHICKENS AND GUINEA PIG AND PARIS AND MONKEYS. ANY EVEN SMALL GOATS AND DEER, ANY SMALL MAMMAL OR BIRD SHE GETS A HOLD OF. SHE CAN TELL YOU DOWN AND EAT EATING SOMETHING TWICE AS BIG AROUND AS HER OWN BODY. AND SHE'S CALLED A BOA CONSTRICTOR BECAUSE SHE SQUEEZE OR CONSTRICTS THAT SHE EATS SO THAT SHE CAN STOP THEM AND EAT THEM SAFELY. I'LL TELL SECRET THOUGH, FRIENDS EVERY STEAK I SHOWED TO TODAY, EXCEPT FOR THE SAKE, THEY'RE ALLERS. THEY ALL SQUEEZE THEIR PREY TO STOP IT SO THEY CAN EAT IT SAFELY. CAR HAS SEVEN FEET LONG. SHE WEIGHS ABOUT 35 POUNDS. SHE IS STILL GROWING IT. AND OUR PLACEMENT FEET ARE BIG JUICES. JUMBO SIZED RATS. TWO AT A TIME ABOUT ONCE EVERY THREE WEEKS. LOOK AT THAT WHEN I WALK AROUND. YOU MAY NOTICE THAT HER EYES ARE KIND OF GRAY AND HER SCALES ARE LOOKING A LITTLE DULL. THAT'S CAUSE SHE IS GOING TO SHED HER SKIN. SOON AS REPTILES GROW THEIR OUTER LAYERS OF SKIN WEAR OUT AND THE OLD LAYERS HAVE TO COME OFF WITH THE NICE. SO PRETTY LAYERS ARE UNDERNEATH. WE SHED OUR SKINS TOO. YOU'RE SHEDDING YOUR SKIN RIGHT NOW AND YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW IT. WE SHED IN TINY PIECES THOUGH. BUT SNAKES WITH SNAKE SHED THEIR SKIN. THEY USUALLY SHED IN ONE BIG PIECE. IT COMES AWAY FROM THEIR FACE, IT PEELS BACK AND THEY SLIDE RIGHT ON THEIR OLD SKIN TURNING IT INSIDE OUT LIKE AN OLD SOCK. SO HER EYES ARE GRAY BECAUSE THEY HAVE A CLEAR SCALE COVERING THEIR EYES CALLED AN EYE CAP OR A GRILL ON HERE. LET'S TRY THAT AGAIN. THERE WE GO. SO THAT COVERS UP THE EYE BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE EYELIDS AND SO THE OUTER LAYERS OF THAT COME OFF WITH THE SKIN AS WELL. OKAY, LET'S BRING CARITA AROUND THE ROOM. LET'S START ON THIS SIDE. LOOK AT THIS WILD AND CRAZY SNAKE. HI FRIENDS. NOW YOU MIGHT THINK CARMA LITA LOOKS A LITTLE INTIMIDATING, BUT SHE IS ACTUALLY VERY FRIENDLY. SHE IS SO FRIENDLY IN FACT THAT WHEN I TAKE HER TO BIRTHDAY PARTIES, I WRAP HER AROUND THE KIDS NEXT TO FUN AND SHE LIKES TO GIVE BIG HUGS. YEAH. ALL RIGHT, WE'RE AROUND THIS SIDE NOW. THERE WE GO. COMING BACK AROUND. HER CAMOUFLAGE PATTERN MAKES IT HARD FOR OTHER ANIMALS TO SEE HER SO SHE CAN HIDE FROM BOTH PREDATORS AND PREY AND ANIMALS GET TOO CLOSE. SHE CAN SNAP OUT STRIKE. SHE WEIGHS [00:50:01] ABOUT 35 POUNDS. YES. OKAY, FRIENDS, WE'RE GONNA BRING CAR LEE TO BACK OVER HERE. WE'RE ALMOST AT THE END OF OUR TIME TOGETHER TODAY. LET'S SEE IF WE GET CARMEL BACK IN HER LITTLE BOX. OKAY, HERE WE GO. CARMEL DO GET BACK IN HERE AND LET'S SEE IF WE CAN DO THIS WITHOUT PULLING OFF THE MICROPHONE. THERE WE GO. RIGHT DOWN HERE. OKAY. HEY, THERE WE ARE. NOW FIRST WE GOT JUST A FEW MINUTES LEFT. WE ARE GONNA DO SOME QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS. AND BEFORE WE DO THAT THOUGH, FRIENDS, JUST A COUPLE THINGS I WANNA TELL YOU GUYS, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR COMING TODAY. ALSO, BEFORE YOU GUYS LEAVE, PLEASE MAKE SURE FIND YOUR LIBRARIANS AND YOUR LIBRARY STAFF AND PLEASE TELL THANK YOU BECAUSE THEY WORK REALLY HARD EVERY YEAR TO PUT THESE PROGRAMS ON. SO PLEASE MAKE SURE TO SAY THANK YOU TO THEM AND WE APPRECIATE Y'ALL BRINGING US BACK HERE WITH YOU. WE'RE SO HAPPY TO BE BACK HERE IN HUDDLE. NOW LET'S SEE, UH, FOR INSTANCE, YOU WANNA FIND OUT HOW TO GET OUR PROGRAMS INTO YOUR SCHOOL OR YOUR SCOUT GROUP OR BIRTHDAY PARTY OR ANY UH, ORGANIZATION. JUST COME TALK TO ME. I'LL HAVE SOME CARDS UP HERE IN THE FRONT. NOW FUN QUESTION AND ANSWER TIME. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS, WHAT I'M GONNA ASK THE KIDS TO DO, THOSE WHO WANT TO ASK ME A QUESTION, WE'RE GONNA LINE UP ON THIS BLUE LINE RIGHT HERE. AND ONCE YOU GUYS ARE UP HERE LINED UP, WE'LL RAISE YOUR HANDS AND I WILL COME DOWN THE LINE AND QUICKLY ANSWER AS MANY QUESTIONS AS WE HAVE TIME FOR. SO, KEN, IF YOU WANNA ASK ME SOMETHING, GO AHEAD, COME UP. NOW'S YOUR CHANCE. EVERYBODY ELSE THANK YOU GUYS VERY, VERY MUCH FOR BEING HERE TODAY. I HOPE YOU ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR SUMMER AND THAT'S OUR SHOW FOR TODAY. ALL MICROPHONE SO THAT YOU GUYS CAN, UH, CAN HEAR UH, OUR ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS. YEAH, LEMME GET SOME CARDS ON REAL QUICK. ALL RIGHT, SO STARTING AT THIS END, WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION FRIEND? HOW TINY PILES? WELL, HOW TINY CAN THEY BE? SOME RAP PILES ARE NO MORE THAN ABOUT THAT BIG, LIKE THE PIGMENT CHAMELEON AND THE SMALLEST SNAKES THE WORLD ONE ABOUT THAT MAKES FALSE HURDLES. WE ONLY ABOUT THAT BIG. ISN'T THAT WILD AND CRAZY. ALL RIGHT, LET'S SEE. GOING DOWN THE LINE. WHAT'S YOUR QUESTION, FRIEND? YEP. WHY TURTLE FEED SUN THEN NEED SOME TO WARM THEIR BODIES UP, BUT ALSO SO THAT THEIR BODIES SHOULD CAPITALIZE THE CALCIUM TO GET THE VITAMIN D THAT THEY NEED. THE THEY GET THAT FROM THE SUNLIGHT JUST LIKE WE DO. YES. FRIEND. HOW LONG WAS THAT SEX? SHE WAS SEVEN FEET LONG. SEVEN FEET. THE FOOT LONG ON THAT TABLE? YES. WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION, FRIEND? WHICH ONE? THE FIRST THING? UH, THE LITTLE HOG THING THAT WAS LIKE JUST OVER A FOOT LONG. MAYBE 16 INCHES? YES. HOW OLD DO THEY GET BOTH CONSTRICTORS LIVE TO BE OVER 40 YEARS OLD? YES. WHAT THE QUESTION, FRED? WHAT WHAT KIND OF GRAIN? SNAKES EAT DIFFERENT SNAKES EAT DIFFERENT THINGS. SOME SNAKES EAT RATS AND RICE. SO EAT FISH. SOME MEAN OTHER SNAKES. I MEAN EGGS. THERE'S ACTUALLY ONE KINDA SNAKE THAT ONLY EATS FRESHLY BOLTED COFF. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? YES. WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION? WE KNOW THAT WE KNOW THAT REVILE, WE KNOW THAT REPTILES CAN TAIL AND BONE BACK, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE AH, THE REPTILES REGROW LEGS? SO WE DON'T KNOW IF ANY REPTILES THAT CAN REGROW THEIR LEGS, ALTHOUGH SOME SALAMANDERS CAN. UM, BUT YEAH, SOME REPTILES UH, SOME LIZARDS CAN REGROW TAILS BUT NOT LEGS. YES. DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION RIGHT HERE? DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION RIGHT HERE IN THE FRONT? DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION? WHAT'S YOUR QUESTION, FRIEND? YES. SNAKE SUGAR SKIN. YES. FRIEND. WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION? YEAH, YOU CAN BREATHE INSIDE THE BAG. MR. MIKE WILL NOT SUFFOCATE ANY OF THESE SNAKES. THAT IS A COOL SNAKE ON YOUR SHIRT. WHAT, WHAT'S YOUR QUESTION? HOW BIG DID BOWL CONSTRICTORS GET? OH, BABY BOWL CONSTRICTORS. [00:55:01] BABY BOWL CONSTRICTORS ARE ABOUT AS BIG AS THAT HOG NO SNAKE THAT I SHOWED YOU. SO YEAH, YOU'RE ABOUT A FOOT LONG FOOT AND A HALF LONG. YEAH. YES, FRIEND. THE THE LITTLE HOG NO SNAKE. YEAH, THAT'S, THAT'S UH, MOLDER. WE HAVE MOLDER AND SCULLY. YES. WE WON'T BE ABLE TO HOLD THEM CAUSE THERE'S A BIG ROOM HERE TODAY. AND ALSO IN OUR FIVE MINUTES THIS MIGHT HAVE SOME PACK ALL THIS UP AND DRIVE DOWN THE LOCK PART TO DO ANOTHER SHOW. YEAH. SO WE HAVE LIMITED TIME TOGETHER TODAY FRIENDS? YES. OH, WONDERFUL QUESTION. YES. THE SKIN UNDERNEATH IS THE SAME COLOR. YEAH, IT'S USUALLY A LITTLE BIT BRIGHTER THAN THE OLD SKIN. YES. HOW BIG CAN SNAKES BE? WELL, THE BIGGEST SNAKES YOU CAN FIND IN THE WORLD TODAY ARE THE GREEN ANACONDA AND IT CAN GET TO BE ABOUT 24 FEET LONG. THAT'S AS LONG AS FOUR OF THESE TABLES PUT TOGETHER AND ABOUT 350 POUNDS. THERE'S A SNAKE THAT GETS LONGER, BUT IT'S SKINNIER CALLED THE RETICULATED PIPE AND IT CAN GET TO BE OVER 30 FEET LONG. THAT WAS FIVE OF THESE TABLES PUT TOGETHER. YEAH. NOW THERE WAS A SNAKE A LONG TIME AGO THAT GOT EVEN BIGGER THAN BOTH OF THOSE PUT TOGETHER. TITANOBOA GOT TO BE OVER 50 FEET LONG AND ABOUT 2000 POUNDS AND IT COULD EVEN EAT SMALL DINOSAURS. OH YEAH.
